In real life Tyler Perry doesn’t seem nearly as supersized as his hulking 6’5” frame or nine-digit bank account suggest. He certainly does not resemble the all-up-in-your-face,gun-toting, and scripture-misquoting Madea character he’s known for.
On the contrary, he seems to be equal parts teddy bear and tiger. Soft, yet stealth. Warm, but strategic. Popular, yet a loner.
“That’s the difficult part about being in this business,” Perry, 42, tells JET. “You become something to people. Most of the people I work with look to me like a father figure because I mentor.”
