Welcome to Keeping it 140. I’m Kyra Kyles, a Senior Editor at JET who moonlights as a social media stalker, tracking the good, bad and ugly of online sharing. I’ll mostly be taking celebs and public figures to task for gaffes on the Interwebs (I see you, 50 Cent and Chris Brown.)  But I’ll also offer advice on how we civilians can keep it together on sites like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and… um… MySpace, that is, if you’re still lurking around on the latter outlet.

Pin-up stagram?

Rihanna, yes, you are gorgeous and I’m sure your drooling stans will be offended at my next sentence, but I’ll risk it.  You do not have to Tweet every single photo of your body every single day  that you wake up in the morning, ma.  And while I’m at it, that goes for you too Kim K. You are setting a bad example for your not even sweet sixteen-sister, Kylie, who earned a shout-out on MediaTakeOut for junior ratchetness.

Thumb Thugging

If you don’t want to buy a ticket to the one-man show…that’s on you. But did this Twitter crazy really have to threaten that “people are gonna die” at “Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth?”  The answer is clearly, no, this should not have been anything anyone typed into their timeline.  And though it was likely an idle outpouring, it’s good that New York City police officers took it seriously and staffed up the night of the missive.  Also kudos to Twitter for giving up the goods on the alleged Tweet freak’s identity. Here’s hoping this thumb thug meets with a left hook from the Former Champ if he pulls these shenanigans again.

Perfect Storm

Yep, Kim gets another mention, but I promise it’s brief.  This time, it’s her man in the driver’s seat of this social media SMH moment.  After releasing the questionably complimentary track, “Perfect Bitch,” the blogosphere questioned whether the curvalicious diva he described was his current squeeze or ex/Wiz Khalifah wifey, Amber Rose.  The verdict is in, courtesy of ‘Ye who simply tweeted: “I wrote the song “Perfect Bitch” about Kim.”  Ummm… Congratulations?
