It seems like the “What year is this?!” question in reference to racism is worth asking more and more these days.
There’s a new game available and it promises to allow you to have “fun” while witnessing the “horrors of the slave trade firsthand.”
The game, “Playing History 2: Slave Trade,” was created by Serious Games Interactive, a Denmark-based gaming company.

Travel back in time and witness the horrors of slave trade firsthand. You will be working as a young slave steward on a ship crossing the Atlantic. You are to serve the captain and be his eyes and ears. What do you do, when you realize that your own sister has been captured by the slave traders?
Originally released in 2013, the game is billed as a “educational tool designed to put the student in the middle of important and interesting points in history.”
In fact, the company has won awards for the series’ ability to “approach an important topic in an engaging, fun and humoristic way.”
So let me get this straight.
You create a game meant to educate 8 to 14-year-olds on slavery by granting them the ability to experience a first person point-of-view via slave character who is forced to assist the captain who has kidnapped his sister?
Joy.
