The latest news out of the Trump administration is Tuesday’s firing of FBI Director James Comey. A statement from the White House says Comey was fired “on the clear recommendations of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions.”
If you’re having trouble keeping up, remember as FBI Director, Comey was leading many high profile investigations, the biggest one being Russia’s interference in the presidential election and Hillary Clinton’s emails.
Speaking of Clinton, Comey is the one who 11 days before the presidential election, informed congressional leaders about investigators reviewing newly found emails in connection to Clinton’s private email server.
Comey received both criticism and praise for this decision. In July of last year, he also said there was no basis for criminal charges to be brought against Clinton despite what he called “extremely careless” handling of emails.
President Trump and Comey had their disagreements, with one of them being Comey not supporting the President’s claim former President Obama had his phones wiretapped before the election. No evidence has been found to support those claims.
But not only was Comey fired, he was fired over the phone with the statement from the White House being read to him. That’s not all. This took place while he was on his way to give a speech in Los Angeles.
Now, while we wait for the outcome of the Russia investigation, we have to see who President Trump picks as the new FBI Director.
