Walmart Grants Employee Raises

Well, they fought, protested and their voices were heard.

Walmart employees received the good news that they will be getting a pay increase come April.

In the review of its fourth quarter earnings report, the Walmart super chain shared that half a million of its part and full-time employees will receive at least a $9 raise. This number is slightly above the federal minimum wage with hopes that February 2016 will see a jump to $10 an hour following six months of training, reports USA Today.

For years, advocacy groups and employees have blasted the store chain for paying unlivable wages causing many workers to depend on welfare assistance. Finalizing the decision to up wages comes as part of the company’s strategy to keep employees and improve customer service.

The pay increase will cost Walmart $1 billion, CEO Doug McMillion stated.
