Seriously, when will people learn?!
Shortly after Simone Biles became the first Black female gymnast to win a world all-around title last week, the haters started hating. Namely Italian gymnast Carlotta Ferlito, who said: “I told (teammate Vanessa Ferrari) that next time we should also paint our skin black so then we can win, too,” according to USA Today.
Oh, no, she didn’t!
Ferlito later issued an apology via Twitter: “I want to apologize with the Americans girls. I didn’t want to sound rude or racist. I love Simone and I’m a huge fan of USA gymnastics.” She later added she “made a mistake” and “I didn’t think about what I was saying.”
Last summer, Gabby Douglas became the first Black female gymnast to win the Olympic all-around gold medal and also faced criticism. You can read the rest of the story here.
Your turn: Do you think Carlotta Ferlito should be punished for her comments?
