This team may be “little,” but they’re doing BIG things.
For the first time in 31 years, Chicago’s South Side will be represented in the Little League World Series.
Morgan Park’s Jackie Robinson West has previously won two Illinois State Championships in a row in a time when Black participation in baseball is decreasing.
Saturday, the team defeated Indiana’s New Albany Little League with a score of 12-7. Now, the team will take their talents to Williamsport, Pa. to challenge a team from Lynnwood, Wash on Thursday, August 14 on ESPN..
“Our league has a strong tradition,” Bill Haley, a parent, told Forbes. “There’s a sense of community to start out with.”
The Chicago White Sox will be holding a watch party for the team’s game as support.
Best of luck to the team!
