A Six-Year-Old’s Mistreatment In A Toronto School Leads to Black Lives Matter Staging A Walkout
Toronto is the latest city to see a Black Lives Matter protest. This stems from an incident taking place back in September at a Toronto school where a six-year-old Black girl was handcuffed by two officers.
According to teachers, the girl allegedly punched a staff member and assaulted several of her classmates.
The girl’s mother doesn’t believe it and is now suing. ” No six-year-old little girl deserves that,” she said.
The lawyer refers to the incident as “anti-Black racism … and what’s particularly jarring to our moral conscience right now is that this level of anti-black racism is moving from something that impacts teenagers and adults right down to a little Black girl.”
Clearly, many people in Toronto agree with the lawyer’s sentiments and staged a school walkout on Monday.
Toronoto’s CityNews reported from the walkout and one teacher said, “We will not continue to participate uncritically in an institution that habitually abuses black children. We’re demanding better for black children, now!” And a parent admitted that under current conditions, “I am terrified for my children each day.”
A York University study backed up the lawyer’s claims because it found that Black students in Toronto are twice as likely as their White counterparts to be in “applied” classes, instead of academic classes. Applied classes apparently do not prepare students for the future as well as academic classes.
