U.S. Applications for Jobless Aid Reach 3-Month Low
The number of people seeking U.S. unemployment benefits dropped 26,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 323,000, the lowest level in three months as layoffs remain at pre-recession levels. The Labor Department said Thursday that the four-week average of applications, a less volatile measure, fell slightly to a seasonally adjusted 336,500.
Bill Whitaker Joins “60 Minutes” Cast
Veteran CBS News correspondent Bill Whitaker, who has been with the network for 30 years and based in Los Angeles since 1992, is moving East to join the cast of “60 Minutes.” CBS said Thursday that Whitaker will begin on the Sunday night show this fall. He will be the first full-time black correspondent on “60 Minutes” since the death of Ed Bradley in 2006, although Byron Pitts was a regular contributor before joining ABC News in 2013.

Shaq Seeking Funding for New Video Game
Shaquille O’Neal says he’s seeking redemption for “Shaq Fu,” his infamous fighting game originally released in 1994 that’s now considered to be among the worst games ever made. The four-time NBA champion is launching a crowd-funding campaign to create a “Shaq Fu” follow-up titled “Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn.”
