Ailing former South African President Nelson Mandela is not “doing well” but is continuing to put up a courageous fight from his “deathbed,” members of his family have told the South African Broadcasting Corporation in an interview. Since June the Presidency has consistently described his condition as “critical but stable.”

Reggae Singer Dies

Junior Murvin, famous for his hit “Police and Thieves,” died in a Jamaica hospital at the age of 67. He had been hospitalized for diabetes and high blood pressure.

Michelle Obama Unveils White House Holiday Decor

The familiar black dog with the white chest and white front paws starred in past Christmases in President Barack Obama’s White House, but America’s first pooch had to let someone else in the picture this holiday season: his little sister, Sunny. Sunny stole the spotlight outright when 2-year-old Ashtyn Gardner, of Mobile, Ala., lost her balance and dropped to the carpet when Michelle Obama led the leashed puppy (a separate handler held Bo) into the State Dining Room, where the first lady and military children had been decorating cookie ornaments, making tissue-paper flowers and using dried fruit to make tiny wreaths.

Get ready, R. Kelly fans! There are more chapters of the singer’s “Trapped in the Closet” series coming your way. TV network IFC announced additional chapters will be released in 2014.

Jay and Bey are Going Vegan

The rapper and entrepreneur has decided to embrace a vegan diet starting Tuesday, a day before his 44th birthday, and ending on Christmas. His self-proclaimed “22-day challenge” is based on a theory that it takes people 21 days to “make or a break a habit,” he said on his Life + Times blog. Hova’s wife, Beyonce, will be joining him on the “plant-based” diet, which was apparently inspired by a good friend.

Man Survives 3 Days at Bottom of Ocean

Entombed at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean in an upended tugboat for three days,Harrison Odjegba Okene begged God for a miracle. The Nigerian cook survived by breathing an ever-dwindling supply of oxygen in an air pocket. A video of Okene’s rescue in May that was posted on the Internet more than six months later has gone viral this week.

Student Shooting Outside Florida High School

Jamorian Eddie Patrick Bell, 17, has been arrested for allegedly shooting 15-year-old Jerodrick Smith during a fight. The incident occurred right after school near a bus loop and soccer field. Smith was shot in the abdomen and face and is listed in stable condition.

Drake Parters with Jordan Brand

The rapper announced the new collaboration at his concert in Portland. “Growing up, I’m sure we all idolized this guy, he goes by the name of Michael Jordan. So today, I came to Portland and officially became inducted into the Team Jordan family,” he said during the show. The “Worst Behavior” singer also gave us a glimpse of what is to come from on his Instagram page.

Making a Difference

Newlyweds George Lucas and Mellody Hobson recently donated $25 million to the Chicago nonprofit After School Matters.  The money will be dispersed over five years and create funding for a stipend the was cut due to the recession. The program serves thousands of Chicago Public School students.
