Last-minute Insurance Shoppers Given Grace Period

Anticipating heavy traffic on the government’s health care website, the Obama administration effectively extended Monday’s deadline for signing up for insurance by a day, giving people in 36 states more time to select a plan. The grace period — which runs through Tuesday — was the latest in a series of pushed-back deadlines and delays that have marked the troubled rollout of the health care law.

Charles Ramsey Gets Book Deal

The Cleveland man who rescued Ariel Castro’s three captives will be releasing a memoir, according to his publisher, Gray & Co. Ramsey became an overnight celebrity after he broke down a door to rescue Gina DeJesus, Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry and Berry’s daughter from Castro’s house, where they’d been held captive for the last 10 years.

Italian ’12 Years a Slave Poster’ is Misrepresentative 

To see Italy’s version of the poster for 12 Years a Slave, you’d think the movie stars producer Brad Pitt, because he’s featured so prominently. According to Buzzfeed, another Italian poster for the movie featured slave owner Michael Fassbender. This is a joke, right?

Black Dads Defy Stereotypes

A new survey shows that Black fathers are just as, if not more so, involved in their children’s lives as other fathers in similar situations. According to the Los Angeles Times,”among fathers who lived with young children, 70% of black dads said they bathed, diapered or dressed those kids every day, compared with 60% of white fathers and 45% of Latino fathers.” Way to go, dads!

Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly to Go on Tour

R. Kelly recently revealed he plans to hit the road with Mary J. Blige for their “King and Queen Tour” in 2014. No word from Mary’s camp yet, perhaps in light of the bad press the Chicago singer has gotten lately?
