Civil Rights Group Seeks Meeting with Barneys CEO

A civil rights group said Thursday it was seeking a meeting with the CEO of Barneys New York in the wake of racial profiling claims by two shoppers at the high-end department store. The Brooklyn chapter of the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network said the group also plans to picket Barneys if the alleged pattern of racial profiling does not stop, its president, Kirsten John Foy, said in a statement.

Search Continues for Missing Autistic Teen

The search is on for 14-year-old Avonte Oquendo, who was last seen running the halls alone at his Queens school before exiting out the door.  He is said to be non-verbal with the mental capacity of a 7-year-old; however, his family is hopeful that he will return safely. “The number one reason that a child is recovered is because someone saw their photograph so that’s why it’s imperative to get it out there in the public eye,” said Carla Proudfoot of the Maryland Center for Missing and Unidentified Persons.

Three NFL Teams to Play in London

Next year, the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins will travel across the pond to play in London as part of the NFL International Series. The “home” teams at Wembley Stadium in 2014 will be the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders. According to the Associated Press, the Cowboys will face Jacksonville, the Lions will take on Atlanta, and the Dolphins will play Oakland. Dates have not been announced.

From Rapper to Chef?

Rapper and actor Ja Rule may be adding a new title to his resume: cookbook author. Rule recently told Sirius talk show host Geoffrey Zakarian that he was interested in writing a cookbook based on his experience creating meals in a microwave in prison. He shared with TMZ that he and fellow inmates made food such as lasagna and cheesecake in microwaves. Interesting…

Octavia Spencer to Star in Murder Mystery

NBC has given the go-ahead to a Murder, She Wrote reboot starring Octavia Spencer as the lead character Jessica Fletcher. Deadline says the character will be “a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth who self-publishes her first mystery novel” and solves crimes in real life.
