Feds Challenge New Trial In Katrina Shootings

The Justice Department is appealing a judge’s decision to order a new trial for five former New Orleans police officers convicted of civil rights violations stemming from deadly shootings on a bridge after Hurricane Katrina. Prosecutors filed a notice of appeal late Thursday, asking the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to review last month’s decision by U.S. District Judge Kurt Engelhardt. The Lion King to Earn $1 Billion on Broadway

The Lion King has more reason to roar — it’s on pace to end the week as the first Broadway show to earn $1 billion. According to The Broadway League, the show ended last week with a 16-year gross of $999,267,836. It regularly pulls in between $1 million and $2 million a week over eight performances at the Minskoff Theatre. (AP)

After 24 years of marriage, Sonya Miller is calling it quits. She filed the papers listing as “irreconcilable differences,” and is requesting full custody of their four minor children.

Deitrick Haddon Nude Photo Leaks

As if the gospel entertainer hasn’t already received enough backlash for the new reality show Preachers of L. A., someone goes and leaks a picture of him. And it’s not a photo of the pastor in his Godly robe, but of him in nothing at all. Apparently the image of his male parts was leaked by Haddon’s mistress from his first wife.

Blair Underwood’s Ironside Gets the Boot

After three episodes, NBC has cancelled the 1970s spinoff. The show will be replaced by new episodes of Dateline and holiday-themed specials in November and December. “I wanted to thank all of you for watching & being so very supportive of the show. I will keep you posted on what is next,” Underwood said in a Facebook post.

Principal Faces Sex Charges

Former middle school principal David Ellis Edwards of Fayetteville, North Carolina is accused of sexually assaulting at least three boys between the age of 11 and 14 while serving at two different schools. Last Friday, the 49-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree forcible sex offense, sexual acts with a student, taking indecent liberties with a minor and crimes against nature. Officials say the incidents occurred between 2009 and 2011 and at least one occurred in Edward’s office while the student’s parents sat in a nearby waiting room.
