Newark, N.J., Mayor Cory Booker is canceling Senate campaign events because of his father’s death. Booker’s Senate campaign says in a statement that Cary Booker died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was 76. He recently had a stroke and suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
The 2-year old son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who was reported earlier to be in critical condition at a Sioux Falls, South Dakota hospital, has died. The child was a victim of alleged abuse. Joseph Robert Patterson, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, has been charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on an infant for harming a child who was in his care.
The basketball legend won’t be returning to his job as an NBA analyst on NBA Countdown. “I don’t feel confident that I can continue to devote the time needed to thrive in my role,” he told The Associated Press. The network is bringing in Doris Burke for the show, but he’ll be participating in a different capacity.
Kendrick Johnson’s Body Stuffed with Newspaper
During a second autopsy of Kendrick Johnson, the 17-year-old who was found dead in a rolled-up gym mat in January, the pathologist discovered that the teen’s organs had been removed and filled with newspaper. The boy’s parents, who don’t believe their son’s death was accidental as the investigators concluded, recently won a court order to have their son’s body exhumed and a second autopsy performed. “We have been let down again,” his father, Kenneth Johnson, told CNN. “When we buried Kendrick, we thought we were burying Kendrick, not half of Kendrick.”
Keith Brown, the coach of the university’s women’s basketball team, stepped down Thursday after an investigation into unprofessional conduct and inappropriate language began. The school started looking into the allegations, which were presented by the players, three weeks ago. Both Brown and assistant coach Tim Valentine were put on administrative leave last week.
