A rookie police officer shot and killed a 14-year-old boy on a street early Sunday after he refused to drop his gun and pointed it in the direction of officers, authorities said. Shaaliver Douse died of a single gunshot to his jaw after the confrontation in the Melrose section of the Bronx.
“Stand Your Ground” Gets Hearings
People protesting Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law have received promising news. The controversial law, at the center of the George Zimmerman trial, is expected to receive hearings this fall.
Thousands of fast food employees across the country have staged strikes in hopes of earning higher wages. They demanded better pay, the right to unionize and a more than doubling of the federal minimum hourly wage from $7.25 to $15, according to AP.

“The Sapphires” Cover Controversy
Looks like movie makers tried to pull a fast one on us. Last week, Anchor Bay, the distributor for the 2012 movie “The Sapphires,” released the DVD in U.S. with a much different cover than the original one in Australia. The Aussie version features the actresses portraying the Black Australian girl group predominately on the cover, while the U.S. version fades them into the background.
Say what?! Yeezus himself is going to perform on an awards show? The rapper is slated to perform his single “Black Skinhead” at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25 in Brooklyn. This will be his seventh performance, which means he ties with Madonna for most performances at the annual awards show.
Terrence Howard Allegedly Beats Ex-Wife
Unfortunately, this one seems like deja vu. Actor Terrence Howard reportedly beat his ex-wife Michelle Ghent while the two were vacationing in Costa Rica, according to TMZ. Howard claims Ghent maced him and other family members, but sources say he falsified the story to cover up his own actions.

Ted Nugent Says Trayvon “Got Justice”
Rocker Ted Nugent, a Detroit native, allegedly said Trayvon Martin “got justice,” along with some other choice words, according to the Register. In a recent radio interview, Nugent called the unarmed teen a “gangsta wannabe,” who had a “bloodthirst.” This is after he wrote an op-ed piece last month saying George Zimmerman should sue the Martin’s family for emotional suffering. What the heck? Despite these statements, he has said he is anti-racist. Someone want to pass him a dictionary and a history book?

Fans have been longing for new music by Andre 3000, so when Stephen Hill tweeted that the Outkast member was planning a 2014 solo album, the buzz spread. His team sent an official statement to Billboard, letting everyone know that there is no confirmation of a project happening. Looks like fans will have to wait a little bit longer.
