The government expects most households to pay more for heating bills this winter, although heating oil users will see their bills drop slightly. Homes using natural gas for heat, about half of the nation, will see costs rise about 13 percent from a year ago to an average of $679. That’s still about $25 lower than the average for the winters of 2007 through 2012.
Police Kill Man in Need of Assistance
The family of Jack Lamar Roberson, 43, says that he did not threaten officers and did not have any weapons at the time police fatally shot him. Roberson’s girlfriend originally called police for urgent medical assistance. While police did not specify what type of weapons were involved had, Waycross Mayor Clarence Billups said Roberson was wielding knives.
50 Cent said he’s excited to be part of the new Sundance series “Dream School” because the reality show focuses on uplifting people. The show, which debuted Monday (10 p.m. EDT), follows a group of high school dropouts who are trying to graduate. 50 Cent appears in the series with filmmaker Oliver Stone and actor David Arquette.
MTV2 Renews Record-Breaking Shows
The cable network announced Thursday that it has picked up new season orders for Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out and Ain’t That America with Lil Duval, after both series had a record-breaking season. The shows ranked in the top two spots of highest-rated programs in MTV2 history and are scheduled to return in 2014. MTV2’s newest original series, Guy Court, will be joining the mix premiering on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
Vanity Fair Names Beyonce & Jay Z #1
According to Vanity Fair’s last ranking, hip-hop’s power couple Jay Z and Beyonce are the most powerful people in America. Thanks to Jay Z’s Magna Carter, Holy Grail album going platinum even before it hit stores and Beyonce’s Super Bowl halftime booking, world tour sell out, and HBO documentary, the two were bound to move up from their number-eight ranking last year.
Calling out half of the music business to celebrate, Pharrell Williams and his bride Helen Lasichanh are throwing a wedding garden party in Miami this weekend. The two secretly wed in France this August, but wanted to celebrate with family and friends, including none other than Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton.
Presidential Advisor Accidentally Tweets N-Word
One of President Barack Obama’s senior advisors made a huge typo in a political tweet Thursday morning. While trying to tweet that polarization was a “bigger” issue on the right, Dan Pfeiffe ended up missing the ‘b’ and hitting the ‘n.’ He later apologized for the mistake.
Halle Berry’s Son’s Name Revealed
Halle Berry and hubby Olivier Martinez welcomed a baby boy into the world this weekend. Since then, E! Online has confirmed their son’s name is Maceo Robert Martinez, which pays homage to Martinez’s Spanish roots. A source says the name means “gift from God.”
The eclectic star told Concrete Loop she quit the social media network because of negativity. She told the website: “My whole thing is that I’m completely fully, capable of handling negativity for myself, but to put that kind of access to negativity behind people who didn’t ask for that was really troubling to me.”
