Shaneen Allen of Philadelphia is under fire for carrying her gun into another state.
The 27-year-old single mom obtained a concealed carry permit and carries a gun following a family member’s suggestion.
“One of my family members, he thought it was appropriate for me to get one because I’m a single mother and I have two children and I work two jobs and I work late and getting up at that time of night I got robbed twice last year and he felt the need for me to get my license to protect me and my kids,” she told a New Jersey news station.
So when Allen was recently pulled over for a minor traffic offense in New Jersey, she admitted to having a gun permit and the actual gun in her car–a confession which the police officer and a judge say may have cost her.
According to My9NJ, Allen was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of hallow-point bullets. If convicted, she faces a minimum of three years behind bars.
