Manhunt Continues for Man Who Murdered Cop

Orlando police have shared Markeith Loyd’s photo on social media at least eight times this week in hopes of catching the man accused of fatally shooting an Orlando officer.

Master Sgt. Debra Clayton was shot and killed while trying to confront Loyd outside an Orlando Wal-Mart Monday. It was the first time police publicly identified Loyd, 41, as the suspect in the shooting, and marked to start of a massive manhunt.

This morning, police shared his photo once again just before 5 a.m. with a reminder that there’s a $100,000 reward for information leading to Loyd’s arrest. The Orlando Sentinel  reports that authorities have searched several homes in Lake County and went door-to-door throughout an apartment complex in Orlando’s Rosemont area but have turned up empty handed.

Two people accused of aiding Loyd where arrested Wednesday before Clayton was killed. He has been wanted since Dec. 13, when investigators accused him of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Sade Dixon.

Lakensha Smith-Loyd, the suspect’s niece, and his ex-girlfriend Jameis Slaughter each face a charge of accessory to first-degree murder, records show. Detectives also arrested Zarghee Mayan, Loyd’s former employer, Tuesday on similar charges.

Funeral services for Clayton are planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Orlando.

Anyone with information on Loyd’s whereabouts can call Crimeline at 407-423-8477. On Wednesday, officials said they had received about 600 tips on Loyd since the shooting, but none have led to his arrest.
