Beware of #BlackTwitter and unhappy citizens.
That is the lesson the New York Police Department has learned after receiving major backlash for its “myNYPD” hashtag.
On Tuesday, the NYPD News posted the following tweet:
Do you have a photo w/ a member of the NYPD? Tweet us & tag it #myNYPD. It may be featured on our Facebook. pic.twitter.com/mE2c3oSmm6

Instead of everyday citizens posing with your friendly neighborhood police officer, many people posted pictures of alleged police brutality:
Sure thing! MT @NYPDnews: Do you have a photo w/ a member of the NYPD? Tweet us & tag it #myNYPD pic.twitter.com/mdWqoHiij5

The #NYPD will also help you de-tangle your hair. #myNYPD pic.twitter.com/nrngQ1bOWv

Needless to say, neither of those pictures were retweeted by NYPD News. Hmmm…we wonder why? As of Wednesday morning, the police department hadn’t responded to the backlash on Twitter.
