The unemployment rate declined to 4.6 percent in November, the lowest rate in nine years, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Last month, the unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points, and the number of unemployed persons declined by 387,000 to 7.4 million. From Aug. 2015 to Oct. 2016, both measures had shown little movement.
In terms of adult men, the unemployment rate declined to 4.3 percent. For adult women (4.2 percent), teenagers (15.2 percent), Whites (4.2 percent), Blacks (8.1 percent) and Hispanics (5.7 percent)–numbers that showed little or no change over the month of November.
The number of those who lost jobs and persons who completed temporary jobs edged down by 194,000 to 3.6 million in Nov.
Employment in professional and business services rose by 63,000 jobs in November and has risen by 571,000 jobs added over the year. Over the month, bookkeeping and accounting services added 18,000 positions.
Administrative and support services also saw an uptick of 36,000 additional jobs added, while computer systems design and related services saw 5,000 jobs added.
