The race is on. With less than 100 days left until the 2012 presidential election, the Democratic Party is turning up the heat. In an effort to jumpstart voter awareness, first Lady Michelle Obama recently initiated the “It Takes One” campaign. The grassroots-fueled voter registration drive includes rallies and speeches from popular Barack Obama supporters. Over the past weekend, actors like Nia Long, Don Cheadle, Donald Faison, and Zach Braff lent their support to the movement — mingling and recruiting supporters in cities from Philadelphia to Las Vegas.
Continuing across the country, “It Takes One” aims to promote awareness about the President’s stance on several key issues, such as payroll taxes and the push for American workers in the world’s growing industries. According to Clo Ewing, director of Constituency Press for Obama for America, this is just the beginning and a small step toward Obama’s re-election push. “There’s more to do,” she says. “It’s up to every single person who can help make a difference by educating and organizing their communities, which collectively will help ensure this President can keep moving this country forward for another four years.”
