One of the many celebrations occurring on Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday will take place in Times Square this Thursday, July 18.
A short video will highlight the South African leader’s most powerful words and teachings as the creators pay tribute to his peaceful vision.
“The Power of Words” will screen at 7:15 p.m. on the electronic billboards in Times Square (Best viewing is at Duffy Square, between 46th and 47th Streets).
There will be a continuous playing of the video in the Time Square Museum & Vision Center, 1560 Broadway, Seventh Ave. between 46th and 47th Streets, from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Filmmaker Nabil Elderkin, along with four others, will work with youth from Boys & Girls Club of America chapters to continue the initiative. They will create short films based on Mandela’s quotes and teachings and release them over the next nine months.
The peaceful leader’s grandson, Kweku Mandela, works with Out of Africa Entertainment and is spearheading the project as a way to give tribute to his grandfather’s legacy.
Times Square Arts and Times Square Advertising Coalition are working with the Tribeca Film Institute and the Nelson Mandela Foundation to present this film.
