Donald Trump has a plan for “the African-Americans.”

Yesterday, during his campaign rally in Charlotte, N.C., the Republican Presidential candidate discussed several of his initiatives to aid the Black community. While discussing inner cities and urban renewal, in front of a crowd of about 500, mostly white spectators, Trump proposed his own version of a “new deal for Black America.”

Trump honed in on three areas concerning African-Americans he pledged to address if elected: community safety, education and job growth. He cited school choice as the most pressing civil rights issue of our time, but didn’t go into great detail about reform on the matter.

“Here is the promise I make to you, whether you vote for me or not: I will be your greatest champion,” he said.

The 45-minute speech, which took place at the Spirit Square, was held near to where protestors demonstrated against police brutality last month after the shooting of unarmed Keith Lamont Scott.

Trump’s lofty solutions included adding more police in crime-ridden neighborhoods, adjusting the social welfare policy to turn government welfare into repayable micro-loans, and building a wall between the U.S. and Mexico to strengthen the country’s illegal immigration policy.

“Illegal immigration violates the civil rights of African-Americans,” he said, to much applause. “No group has been more economically harmed by decades of illegal immigration than low-income African-American workers.”

Trump stressed that the conditions in inner cities are “unacceptable” and “the problem is not in the presence of police but the absence of police.”

“I want every poor African-American child to be able to walk down the street, and not be scared,” he said. “We must work with our police, not against them.”

As in many of his other rallies, Trump also took time to reprimand Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, claiming their involvement in the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) has decimated states like North Carolina, and the African-American middle class.

He declared that he would propose tax holidays for inner-city investments and plans for overseas business to set up shop in our “blighted American neighborhoods.”

Prior to the rally, Trump reportedly held a constructive roundtable backstage with several African-Americans, including his director of outreach Omarosa Manigault. And although Trump was introduced to the crowd by Pastor Leaon Threatt, an African- American who is running for congress in the city’s 12th district, a recent CBS News poll shows just 4 percent of African-Americans actually support Trump.
