Maria Chappelle-Nadal, state senator for Ferguson, Mo., is enraged after she and other peaceful protesters were tear-gassed by police.

Chappelle-Nadal, who represents Missouri’s 14th district, was sprayed with the toxic gas Monday night.

“They have every right to assemble freely,” she told KMOV4. “Tear gas was thrown at me, and we could not breathe.”

The gas was allegedly thrown by State Highway Patrol officers.

“I approve their budget, so you know I’m pissed,” Chappelle-Nadal added.

Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson said that he was unaware of the gassing event in a press conference, KMOV reports.
