Lincoln University President Robert R. Jennings found himself in a web of trouble after alleged sexist remarks regarding sexual assault at an all women’s convocation on campus in September went viral.
Parents and students immediately called for Jennings to be reprimanded for commentary that was interpreted as blaming women for sexual assault.
Concerns did not go unheard and just under a week after the university board made an internal review announcement, the decision was made and effective, immediately.
During his speech, Jennings, who has served as the president of the HBCU since January 2012, stated:
“...first and foremost don’t put yourself in a situation that would cause you to be trying to explain something that really needs no explanation had you not put yourself in that situation.“
Valerie Harrison, Lincoln University’s General Counsel, will step in as acting president.
To further assure that the university takes this scenario seriously, Harrison announced that a task force on sexual misconduct led by staff, faculty and students is in place with a mission to “develop recommendations for educational programs and other measures to further the university’s commitment to providing a healthy and safe learning environment.”
