Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is calling for a meeting with community leaders, ministers and activists before the city releases dash cam video of a Chicago police officer fatally shooting a Black teenager 16 times at close range.
17-year-old LaQuan McDonald was killed last year. The city has settled with his family, but a freelance journalist sued to have the footage released.
A judge ordered that must happen by Wednesday, ABC reports.
Brooks hasn’t seen the video, but would like to watch it before it’s released to the public.
“I’m hoping that we will be able to judge for ourselves the damage that it could potentially have on our community,” Brooks said.
The officer who shot McDonald has not been charged, and the police union said he shot the teen in self-defense. The case is still under investigation.
