Hip-hop culture has been dominated for over 30 years, so it should be no surprise the genre is getting its own museum. The Hip Hop Hall of Fame (HHHOF) museum is set to open in February 2018 and will set up shop in Harlem.
The organizers of the nonprofit HHOF, a museum and educational institution, released a statement saying it will “preserve, archive, exhibit, educate, and showcase hip-hop music & culture from around the world.”
According to HHOF founder, James “JT” Thompson, the museum will honor elements of hip- hop from the DJs to graffiti artists. Visitors can also expect to see tributes to legends such as Grandmaster Flash, OutKast and Salt-N-Pepa.
Construction of the HHOF will take place in two phases. The first will include a themed cafe, gallery, a visitors’ center and a gift shop on the ground floor, and the upper level will house the museum exhibits, event space, offices and a multimedia studio.
The museum has partnered with HHOF Arts & Media Youth Academy students to provide workshops on career training in tech and media.
Phase two of the HHOF includes finalizing the designs of the total site, which is planned to stand 20 stories high and feature a hotel, an entertainment complex, an arcade, a sports bar, and concert lounge which will be of service to 1 million visitors.
This will definitely become a must-see tourist attraction.
