Happy Headline: Detroit Youth Entrepreneur Earns a Surprise

Detroit often gets a negative rap, from its politics to declining motor industry and recent bankruptcy.

Nevertheless, perseverance is in the city’s DNA.

This story of 11-year-old Asia Newson, known as “Detroit’s youngest entrepreneur” shows just that. As the co-founder and CEO of Super Business Girl, a company that she runs with her parents, Asia has quite the marketing and sales pitch when it comes to selling homemade candles on the streets of the Motor City.

The business isn’t all self-serving either. In addition to using the funds for school and business supplies, the big picture is using the earned dollars so that she can buy clothes and food for needy children.

In an ABC NEWS 20/20 feature, scheduled to air on December 12th, the budding entrepreneur shares, “Detroit is still a great place to start a business. We have wonderful people. They’ll encourage you. I mean, I sell my candles here, like, I make pretty good money.”
