It’s become pretty standard now for Black celebrities to get asked about the Black Lives Matter movement during an interview. Actress Halle Berry recently gave her opinion on the movement at the Cannes Lion Girls Lounge while in conversation with its founder, Shelly Zalis.
When it comes to the social justice movement, Berry is all about action and not just talking.
“In my world, I get so tired of people complaining about, ‘Oh, black lives matter,’ and they pontificate and pontificate about it, and I say, ‘Well, what are you doing about that? It may not seem significant to you, but that’s how we start. Have you called your local politicians, have you written a letter?’”
Berry went on to say, “When they say they’ve done nothing, I say, ‘Well, don’t talk to me … because you are part of the problem because you are sitting here spewing negativity and complaining.’”
This is probably how the Academy Award-winning actress feels when it comes to conversations surrounding diversity in Hollywood. It’s easy to talk about, but it requires action to make real change.
Aside from acting, Berry is venturing into the technology industry and is gearing up to launch her website/social forum, Hallewood. It’s expected to launch next month and Berry will be posting stories, connecting with fans and discussing a plethora of topics.
