The popular crowd-funding site GoFundMe rejected a campaign to raise money for a former South Carolina officer charged with fatally shooting an unarmed black man last week.
Officer Michael Slager, 33, was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday after video surfaced of him fatally shooting 50-year-old Walter Scott multiple times in the back as he attempted to run away. The video also appears to show Slager planting a taser by Scott’s body as evidence the shooting was in self-defense.
Slager was fired Wednesday. GoFundMe confirmed it removed the campaign via email, according to ThinkProgress.
“After review by our team, the campaign set up for Officer Slager was removed from GoFundMe due to a violation of our Terms and Conditions,” said Kelsea Little in the email on behalf of GoFundMe.
Due to privacy protections, details on which terms and conditions were breached were not disclosed. News of the campaign being removed from the site began circulating on Twitter after the campaign’s organizer tweeted that the site had rejected the page.
I’m not sure what’s more disturbing. The fact that an officer can shoot an unarmed man in cold blood or that he actually has people who support his barbaric actions.
Fix it Jesus.
