Funeral for Tyshawn Lee to be Held Tuesday

Funeral services for a 9-year-old boy who was executed in Chicago last week will commence on Tuesday, ABC reports.

Tyshawn Lee will be laid to rest 8 days after police say he was lured into an alley and shot to death.

The boy was shot multiple times at close range near his mother’s home in the city’s Gresham neighborhood. Police said he was killed in retaliation for his father’s alleged gang ties.

Family and friends of the 4th grader gathered to remember him Monday at Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church.

“He always had a basketball. He liked to dance. He was a silly child, as 9- or 10-year-olds are,” said Vanessa Dixon, who knew Tyshawn.

The basketball he always carried was found near his body.

Police do not have anyone in custody, but say they are optimistic about solving the case. There is a $54,000 reward and relocation for information leading to the boy’s killer.

The funeral will be held at St. Sabina Church and is expected to be filled to capacity on Tuesday.
