Lennon Lacy, a 17-year-old North Carolina native, was found dead this summer hanging from a dog leash and belt tied to a swing set in a mobile-home park near his home.
The medical examiner ruled his death a suicide due to depression; however, Lennon’s family believes he was lynched and may have a clue as to what may have led to this harsh act.
Lennon, a Black male, was in a relationship with a 32-year-old White woman who worked as a prostitute to enable her drug addiction, according to the New York Daily News. Family members and friends believe that his involvement in an interracial relationship with Michelle Brimhall played a role in his lynching death.
Pierre Lacy, Lennon’s brother, recalled racial slurs being targeted at his brother along with public threats. Justin Jones, Lennon’s friend and football teammate suggested that he break up with Brimhall because she was “bad news,” to no avail.
Despite the controversial and seemingly tumultuous relationship, the Lacy family has not accused Brimham for Lennon’s death, but feels that she knows what really happened.
Michelle Brimhall has not been seen or heard from since Lacy’s death.
After questioning from Lennon’s mother and a further look into the case by an independent pathologist, who concluded that there was no way Lennon could have acted alone in hanging himself, the case is now being investigated by the FBI.
