A Chicago woman was stabbed to death on the city’s Red Line rail station near 47th Street in what police say was a domestic dispute over a child.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chicago Tribune reports the woman, in her late teens or early 20s, was stabbed in the neck on a southbound train.
A man believed to be the offender was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital for injuries sustained in the altercation.
At a press conference at 47th Street station about two hours after the stabbing, First Deputy Superintendent John Escalante said the dispute may have involved a child, but didn’t explain further or confirm the ages of the woman or the man who stabbed her.
The CTA is aware of the “assault on the Red Line.”
Trains operated on a single track between 35th and Garfield, bypassing 47th Street until about 2:25 p.m., a spokeswoman for the CTA said in a statement.
