Authorities have released the name of a 9-year-old boy who was shot dead in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the city’s South Side.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the boy as Tyshawn Lee. Police say he was shot Monday afternoon in the head and back.
Chief of Detectives Constantine Andrews says that before the shooting, an argument broke out among an unknown number of people in the alley where the boy’s body was found. They left the scene after the shooting.
Andrews says it wasn’t immediately clear if the child was targeted or if the shooting was a case of the boy being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Authorities say no arrests have been made.
