Two people were arrested with 96 fake accounts at the Texas border.
Instead of relishing in the glow of post-Christmas happiness, many Americans were devastated by the massive credit card breach that hit big box retailer Target and luxury retailer Neiman Marcus.
Now, two people have been arrested at the U.S./Mexican border using stolen account information in which they bought tens of thousands of dollars worth of goods from stores such as Best Buy and Walmart. Law enforcement officials are now saying that there is no connection between the arrests of Mary Carmen Garcia, 27, and Daniel Guardiola Dominguez, 28, both from Monterrey, Mexico and the ongoing investigation into the Target or Neiman Marcus breaches, according to the AP.
Garcia and Guardiola may not have gotten their information from the Target situation, but plenty of others did. A laundry-list of people have been arrested or are suspected in both the acquisition of account data and the production of the cards to fraudulently purchase goods after the original Target breach in December last year.
The U.S. Secret Service is also investigating since the incident at Neiman Marcus hacked 1.1 million credit and debit cards and at Target 40 million credit and debit card accounts and the personal information of 70 million customers.
