FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — The latest in the events surrounding the anniversary of the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri (all times local):

Activists are continuing their legal push for an independent probe of a prosecutor’s handling of grand jury proceedings in the Ferguson police shooting of Michael Brown.
Online court records show that the four activists are appealing a judge’s ruling last month that tossed out their lawsuit seeking a special prosecutor to review St. Louis County prosecutor Robert McCulloch’s handling of the process.
A grand jury last November declined to indict white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of 18-year-old Brown, who was black and unarmed.
Protesters have in recent days been marking the anniversary of Brown’s death on Aug. 9, 2014, by taking to a Ferguson thoroughfare near where he was killed.
The activists’ appeal has been filed with the Missouri Court of Appeals.

Only a few dozen people out of a crowd that once numbered around 100 still remain along West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson.
Protesters and police stood on opposite sides of the street just after midnight Tuesday, chatting and milling around.
St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman says officers made no arrests during the protest.
During a demonstration a night earlier, some protesters threw rocks and frozen water bottles at officers. Schellman says there were no similar incidents Tuesday.
Tuesday was the fifth consecutive night of protests marking the anniversary of 18-year-old Michael Brown’s death in the St. Louis suburb.
