150 more women and children were rescued from Boko Haram extremists in the Sambisa Forest of Nigeria, according to The Guardian.
Twelve women fighters and seven soldiers died during the mission, executed by Nigerian soldiers. The Nigerian military initially reported rescuing roughly 300 women and children on Tuesday after deploying ground troops into the remote forest.
Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, told the Associated Press on Thursday that more than 100 additional girls and 50 more women have also been rescued.
Several lives have been lost during shootouts between soldiers and extremists at nine different camps.
All the women and children were being evacuated to a safety zone. It remains unclear if some of the women had willingly joined Boko Haram militants, or were family members of the fighters.
So far, it remains unclear whether some of the girls are from the Chabok camp. Last year, more than 200 girls were taken from the northern Nigerian village by Boko Haram.
They remain missing.
