“You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me”: John Mayer and Dave Chappelle Pay Tribute to Charlie Murphy

Our hearts are still heavy from hearing the news of Charlie Murphy’s passing.
On the night of his death, John Mayer performed in Columbus, Ohio where Dave Chappelle happened to make a surprise appearance. Yellow Springs based, Chappelle is known to pop up at near by comedy clubs and even city council meetings. Joining Mayer on stage, he called him a “sight for sore eyes” after receiving the heartbreaking news and, together the two paid tribute to Murphy.
Before performing “You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me,” which Chappelle said reminds him of his long-time friend, Mayer shared his favorite phrase ever happens to be Murphy’s line “habitual line-stepper” (from the iconic Rick James “True Hollywood Story”). As Mayor played the piano, Chappelle said the following: “Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy. We love you. We love your comedy. We love your stories. And we love your spirit.”
Since his passing, Chris Rock, Chance the Rapper, Nas, Anderson .Paak, “Chappelle’s Show” co-creator Neal Brennan, and more paid their respects to late star. His family also released a statement about his death, “Charlie filled our family with love and laughter and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed.”
