Big Sean shares a heartbreaking clip for his Jeremih-assisted track “Light,” that is unfortunately reminiscent of the times. Directed by Lawrence Lamont off of his latest debut, I Decided., Sean dabbles in today’s political climate and sheds light on discrimination, police brutality and violence.
The Detroit MC can be seen riding in a white van when a drive by shooting occurs that takes the life of young Black girl. The destruction is followed by unarmed Black men being shot by the hands of law enforcement and a Muslim women falling victim to a hate crime. Sean then serves as an angel in this controversial visual, accompanying their souls to heaven.
“We shot this video a couple months ago and sucks to see these scenes are still consistently playing out in real life…even down to this week,” Sean shared. “It’s disheartening sometimes to see that not much has changed when it comes to hate, police brutality n just overall people losing their lives too early. But when I wrote this song, it was to reassure myself that no matter what happens, they can’t take away our Soul, our confidence, our ideas, n all that makes us shine.”
Although the song wasn’t a single, Sean thought it necessary to share the clip to the masses.
“This song isn’t a single but is still super important to me, so I paid for a lot of this outta pocket to make sure we got this out,” he continued. “Rest in peace to all those who have lost life due to senseless actions. As I always say, each one of us have the power to make a change, it starts within….the inner Light.”
