In the age of social media, people are itching for something to stir their timelines in 140 characters of less. Trust, everything will be documented in some way.
And because of this, so many lose or give up their jobs for spewing offensive ignorance. The latest culprit is Nobel laureate and biochemist Tim Hunt.
His admitted that his chauvinistic ways and a speech fueled with sexist commentary was the cause of his University College of London resignation.
While fulfilling an ask to deliver brief remarks during a luncheon for senior female scientists, journalists and engineers, Hunt stated that he favored single-sexed labs. Adding, “Let me tell you about my trouble with girls…three things happen when they are in the lab…You fall in love with them, they fall in love with you and when you criticize them, they cry.”
Err… please… do not reduce women to sex, being lost in love and weakness. Did people not learn anything from this dude, who practically blamed women for provoking rape.
If Hunt was hoping to evoke a few chuckles, he failed tremendously. The room, filled with nearly 100 people, took to social media to express their displeasure and sarcastic remarks using #DistractinglySexy.
Still #distractinglysexy after a full day of cell culture. Didn’t even cry this time, so proud! #HeyaTimHunt pic.twitter.com/RdAxxLJ1fY

Enough with the sexism, already. Just. Stop.
