Creator of “Domination: Total Body Workout” and celebrity fitness trainer DeMarco Dodson helps you transform your body.

1. Set some goals.
Working out aimlessly will result in mediocre results. If you set specific goals, it will provide you with more motivation to work out during the times you may not feel like it.

2. Seek professional help.
Some of you may be new to working out, or maybe it has been a while and you are looking for something to give you that spark you need. Hiring a knowledgeable fitness professional can go a long way in helping you get back on track with a safe and effective exercise routine.

3. Control what you put in to your body.
All too often I come across people who want to see a change in their bodies, but aren’t willing to discipline themselves when it comes to eating and drinking alcohol in moderation. If it means that much to you, you will need to sacrifice in one way or another. Ultimately it’s the best investment you can make in your self and your overall well being.

4. Supplements can be helpful.
Reaching your fitness goals consists of three key factors: diet, exercise, and supplementation. There is nothing wrong with taking a few supplements based on your body’s needs. Exercise sessions can be maximized by consuming the proper nutrients, at the right time. If you are unsure about which products are right for you, consult with a professional trainer or supplement store. Also, be sure to conduct your own research as to what product you are taking and the latest customer reviews. All supplements are not created equal so make sure you make an informed buying decision.

5. What works for one person, may not work best for you.
I constantly have people asking me how they can achieve the aesthetic look that they are after. For females, it’s mostly butt, legs, and abs. For guys, it’s chest, arms, abs. You cannot compare yourself to others when setting out a plan to get the results you want. Everyone’s body is unique, and some people will see better results in a short amount of time using different training techniques. Just worry about you, stay committed, and you will eventually get where you want to be.

6. Aesthetics should not be your only motivation for getting fit.
Having a body that is attractive and fit is a great accomplishment. However, the purpose of fitness and living a healthy lifestyle is also to improve the functionality of your mind and body. Managing stress, having good blood circulation, lean body mass, and extending your life span should be at the top of your list of motivating factors. If you are not currently active, you need to really take in to consideration your overall health, and longevity in life. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, so be prepared to stay in it for the long run.

7. Get a gym buddy.
Having a friend who works out with you can be a great strategy for keeping you on track and establishing some accountability. This doesn’t mean that you should drag your lazy fat friends to the gym with you. Find someone who is positive, and eager to reach similar goals as you. This will help you to push each other through tough workouts and stay on track.

8. Mix it up.
Honestly, going to the gym all the time can get boring after a while. Some things you can do to keep things interesting: take a class; work out in a different setting, perhaps outdoors; hire a new trainer; register for a 5k run or other competitive sport. It’s all about keeping things interesting and stimulating yourself. Otherwise you will become complacent and plateau.

9. Remember, it’s a lifestyle.
Once you embrace fitness, it will become a part of you. Working out boosts your confidence, and gives you a sense of accomplishment. I can guarantee if you committ yourself to being the best you can be in terms of your health and fitness, a lot of other areas in your life with reflect a positive change as well. It all starts inside of you, so get your mind right and get to work!
