So trudging through an old, creaky haunted house isn’t your thing. And maybe you can’t handle sitting through a nightlong marathon of horror movies. As for that zombie walk through the forest preserve…not so much, eh?
Don’t fret.
There are still a number of ways to participate in the spookiest day of the year without the fright fest. Here are a few not-so-scary activities to try out for Halloween this year.
PUMPKIN PATCH
Take a visit to the patch to have your pick at the most popular fruit of the fall season.”Power to the Pumpkin” gives you all the details on how to choose the right one. When you find your perfect match, cook up a yummy pie or carve out some weird faces to decorate the home.
HAY RIDES
Take a load off and enjoy this old-fashioned country tradition. Spend some quality time with loved ones as you gaze at the beautiful scenery while the tractor drives you around the barn. You may even be able to hop off at the pumpkin patch stop, if there is one, to make a selection and jump back on to finish out your ride.
CORN MAZE
Have some fun treading your way through these 7-foot-high pathways, and get lost over and over again. Be sure to eventually locate the exit though. Going off course for too long could turn this playful event into a nerve-wracking one.
TRICK OR TREAT
Who doesn’t love candy? You may be too old to go from house to house knocking on doors for goodies, but you know some little one who isn’t. Grab a family friend’s youngster or little family member and help fill up their bucket. Or you could opt to stay home and distribute some munchies from your front door. Either way, you’re making the kiddies’ Halloween night super sweet.
THE ZOO
See what’s going on at your local animal park. Some have activities the entire family can participate in, like costume contests and parties. Plus, there’s usually a small charge or none at all to attend.
