So, you want to pull your hair up into an elegant updo or don a sleek ponytail, but your edges decided to reject your request? Don’t fret!
I’ve got a few product suggestions that might help control your edges without losing them. It’s a challenge finding a product that will get the job done without leaving behind a greasy residue or unsightly flakes; however, I’ve found a few products that help me and my curl friends gain control.
Design Essentials Natural Honey & Shea Edge Tamer, $10: Smoothly lays down the hairline while providing brilliant shine and a more intense hold. This product is a staple in my house.
Hick’s Edges, $15: This product holds hair firmly in place with a super shine and without flakiness. Leaves the edges looking shinier and healthier than before. This Frugal Fro will admit that the price is a little steep; however, it’s worth every cent. I experienced no flakey residue and remember: a little bit goes a long way.
Curls Passion Fruit Control Paste, $9: Control the style of your curly hair with this Curls control paste. It has passion fruit extract for added shine and control with a light scent of fruit. This gel smells fantastic! The hold was softer for me, but still handled business.
EDEN BodyWorks Coconut Shea Control Edge Gel, $9: This emollient rich fizz-fighting formulation eliminates unruly hair. This is possibly my most beloved edge product because it lasts all day. Its non-tacky/greasy formula keeps my edges laid without build-up.
When choosing any kind of edge control, find formulas that will not dry out your hair. It’s even more important to be prudent about the styles you are rocking. No amount of hair product can help damaged or missing edges.
Style tip: Apply product to edges 30 minutes before heading out. Once product is applied, tie a silk or satin scarf around your edges. Voila! Edges LAID!
