When I first heard about wedding hashtags last year, I thought they were ridiculous.
No matter where you go these days, people are glued to their smartphones and, I thought, a wedding just shouldn’t be one of those places.
While I don’t want our guests to miss the ceremony because they were too busy uploading selfies to Instagram (or get in the way of our professional photographer), I do think it would be neat to have all of their pictures in one place.
Jeff and I never intentionally set out to include a wedding hashtag in our festivities, but when I discovered a board on Pinterest with one we both really liked, we decided to make it official: #PaytonPartyof2.
And apparently we’re not alone.
According to The Knot and Mashable’s 2014 #SocialWeddingSurvey, 55 percent of couples used a wedding hashtag, compared to just 9 percent in 2012.
Essentially, people are going to be on social media anyway, so you might as well create a fun hashtag to group all of your pictures together. By using a wedding hashtag, you can see all of your guests’ candids that night instead of waiting the weeks it sometimes take to get pictures back from your professional photographer.
In my opinion, it’s a win-win and I can’t wait to check out everyone’s pictures!
