It’s not that I don’t believe in love at first sight. It’s just that it didn’t happen for me.
As handsome as my fiancé is, I didn’t immediately fall in love with him when we first met six years ago (sorry, honey!). In fact, I thought he was “quiet, shy and boring.” But our mutual friends (his cousin was dating my college roommate at the time) believed Jeff and I would make a good match.
And, wouldn’t you know it, we’re getting married in three-and-a-half months (ahhh!). I guess opposites really do attract!
The folks at FYI, however, are taking the whole “love at first sight” premise to the next level with the new reality show Married at First Sight. Yup, you guessed it. Participants have agreed to marry their lifetime partner sight unseen.
In the show, relationship experts pair six singles with their scientific match using “personality profiles, psychological assessments, sexology sessions and spiritual counseling.”
While I agree with this concept when it comes to dating (I may or may not have started a Match.com profile back in the day, but gave up on the extensive questionnaire), marrying someone without meeting him or her first seems a bit extreme. But I suppose then there wouldn’t be a reality show and, after all, marriages have been arranged based on much less.
