4 Reasons to Book a Mini-Moon

Strapped for cash or short on vacation days?

Then a mini-moon may be just what you need.

Initially Jeff and I were planning on postponing our honeymoon until next year and returning to Chicago after our wedding in Baltimore. But then, Jeff pointed out, it wouldn’t be different from any other trip back home. Point taken.

After the hustle and bustle of planning a wedding, more couples are deciding to treat themselves to a quick escape before they’re thrust back into “the real world.” Because nothing kills wedding bliss quicker than a stack of paperwork on your desk when you return to work on Monday morning.

Plus, delaying our actual honeymoon until next year gives us more time to save for a faraway destination or luxurious resort. It also buys us a few more months to actually decide where we want to go (suggestions anyone?).

So, in summary, here are four reasons you should book a mini-moon:

1. It’s cheaper than a honeymoon. Want to spend a week at an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean? That’s cool, but it’ll cost you. Whereas honeymoons can cost thousands of dollars, a mini-moon can put you out of a few hundred bucks. Use sites such as Travelzoo, Living Social and Groupon to save big when it comes to booking your hotel and put those flight points to good use.

2. You deserve some R&R. You’re going to need some time to recover from the reception, so a mini-moon is the perfect way to ease yourself back into the post-wedding world. A mini-moon allows you to spend time together away from it all–just the two of you. This, in itself, is priceless. Many brides list not taking a honeymoon as one of their biggest regrets.

3. Double the fun. Think of your mini-moon, whether it’s a staycation or a weekend getaway, as the perfect prelude to a “real” honeymoon. Plus, you’re bound to get freebies from hotel staff on both trips. Score!

4. It’s (ideally) less stressful. Planning a wedding AND a honeymoon at the same time can be a LOT of work! Save yourself the stress, book a couple of nights at a nice hotel and call it a day. Done and done.
