Tell us your love story: Bride: Jerry and I met through a mutual friend. He saw a picture of me and was interested. We talked on the phone often before actually going on our first date. At the time I was in medical school and studying for board exams, so time was limited. Our second date was at a park. Jerry was willing to spend time with me there while I was studying. My mother told me that day, “That is the kind of man you marry.”

When did you know that your partner was the one? Groom: Tana and I remained friends after first meeting. She moved to Ohio for residency training two years after we met. I knew that she was the one when I found myself traveling to spend a few days with her.

How did he/she propose? Bride: Jerry and I both have birthdays in the winter, so we decided to have a “halfway there” birthday party in the spring. Apparently Jerry had gone to my hometown several months before the party to ask my parents for their blessing on our marriage. The weekend of the party I suspected that something was going on, but thought that I had it all figured out when I found a birthday cake for Jerry’s mother. His mother lives in Miami and the party was in Pennsylvania, so I assumed that the surprise was her visit. Little did I know, he was actually proposing and flew her in to witness the moment. Our closest friends and family were there and I was speechless.

What was your most memorable moment from your wedding day? Bride: The most memorable moment for me was walking down the aisle with my father seeing Jerry waiting at the end. Jerry’s family is from Haiti, so they speak both French and Creole. His cousin sang in French a beautiful song, “Je t’aime” as I walked down the aisle. It was a magical moment and felt like time stopped for a moment. Also, our wedding was very special as a whole because my mother does event planning, and she planned our entire wedding day. Our special day was a dream come true made possible by Events by Evette.

What’s the key to success in your relationship? Both: Communication! Communication! Communication! Oh, did we say communication!?
