Tell us your love story: Bride: We met through the senior citizens group at my home church. The “Senior Fun Bunch” sponsored a cruise to Panama. Will went on this trip and during the trip, church members encouraged him to meet me.
When did you know that your partner was the one? Bride: One of my married friends told me to write a list of qualities that I desired in a man and place the list in my bible within the book Corinthians. I wrote the list and years later when I met Will, I opened my bible and looked at the list. My husband matched every quality I had written on my list! Groom: I determined that Charlotte was special when we talked on the phone for four months prior to meeting in person. I knew Charlotte was “the one” on the third date.
How did he propose? Bride: My husband proposed in a popular Italian restaurant in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. As we sat at a balcony table for two, Will dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife. After I said “yes,” the waiter brought out flowers and champagne. The patrons of the restaurant started clapping and family members appeared taking pictures.
What’s the key to the success of your relationship? Both: We believe that a successful relationship has three C’s. The key to a healthy relationship is communication, compromise, and commitment. We believe that communication is the most important of the three C’s.
Why do you want to be included in JET love? Both: We appreciate the way JET spotlights love between couples. We want to tell our story as a reminder to hold on to the hope of finding your soul mate. We also want readers to understand that it is possible for two African-American professionals in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields to unite and learn to develop a work/life balance. As newlyweds, we have realized strengthening our marriage requires love, prayer, and commitment to the institution of marriage.
