Yaya DaCosta has been cast as the iconic pop star in the Whitney Houston biopic set to premiere on Lifetime in 2015.
DaCosta’s career began when she finished second on cycle 3 of America’s Next Top Model. Since the competition, she’s appeared in a plethora of television shows and movies including All My Children, Take the Lead and Lee Daniels’ The Butler.
The film, which will explore Houston’s relationship with Bobby Brown and her early successes, is the actress’ first lead role. Angela Bassett is having a first, too, as she is making her directorial debut.
“I have such regard for both Whitney’s and Bobby’s amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story,” Bassett said in statement.
