WATCH: OWN Commemorates Selma Anniversary

It’s been 50 years since Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and hundreds of demonstrators walked the streets of Selma, Alabama in pursuit of quality and justice for African-American people.

Organized by the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), the landmark movement led to the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and a host of other monumental events that occurred during the Civil Rights Movement.

To commemorate this piece of history, OWN is airing a special episode of Oprah Prime that will feature an in-depth conversation with the star of the upcoming film Selma, David Oyelowo, and its award-winning director, Ava DuVernay.

The show will also include exclusive stories from those who were impacted from the protests of the ’60s and the state of race today.

Catch the sneak peek below and tune in for the full interview when it airs Sunday, January 4, 2015 at 9 p.m. EST on OWN.
